For Puppies 8-16 Weeks Class Fee: $120
What is a puppy class?
In puppy class, puppies learn how to play with each other in an appropriate manner while in the
critical period for socialization in their development. The hour-long class consists of supervised,
off-leash play sessions as well as short, on-leash training sessions where your pup can learn
some basic behaviors. The puppy package ($120) consists of four consecutive weeks of class.
What is the right age for puppies to attend puppy class?
Puppies are allowed to attend puppy class if they are between 8 to 16 weeks.
My Puppy is 14 weeks or older, will we be able to finish the class?
Participation in puppy class past 16 weeks is based on instructor permission. If your puppy’s play style continues to be suitable for class, we will allow you continue. If your puppy class instructor determines that your pup is developmentally more appropriate for Basic Manners, we will credit the cost of the remaining puppy classes towards our Basic Manners class so your pup can continue his/her training! Alternatively, you could
choose to attend puppy class twice a week (on Thursdays and Saturdays) to complete four classes before your puppy turns 16 weeks.
My Puppy is older than 16 weeks but really small/shy/under-socialized, any chance I can still attend puppy class?
Nope, but your puppy is welcome in Basic Manners
Which puppy class is right for me? My puppy is too scared to play with other dogs! What kind of training do you do in puppy class? What do I need to bring to puppy class? What vaccinations will my puppy need? What kind of delicious treats should I bring? What happens if I miss one or more classes? Can I attend class on both Thursdays and Saturdays? My dog has graduated from puppy class/is too old for puppy class. What’s next?
Don’t worry! If your pup is very shy, we can set up a separate area for your pup so they can get
used to the presence of other dogs while feeling protected. Even just being around other dogs
will help with your puppy’s socialization. We find that most shy puppies gain confidence very
quickly. Please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions
about class suitability.
We introduce puppies to clicker-training and teach easy behaviors such as ‘Sit’ and ‘Down’.
Training sessions in puppy class are kept short to make it easier for the puppies to focus and to
give them more time to play.
In order to attend puppy class, your pup needs to have the first round of puppy vaccinations,
also known as the DHPP vaccine. Your pup must also be free from all contagious illnesses.
Common puppy illnesses include Giardia, Coccidia, Parvovirus, Bordetella and other worms and
parasites. If your pup has recently been ill with one of these diseases, please bring a note from
your vet stating that your pup is now healthy and non-contagious before attending class.
Young puppies might find it hard to focus on training, especially in a fun and distracting
environment like puppy class! You may find that their usual kibble or dry dog treats may not be
enough to keep their attention on you during training sessions. We suggest bringing high-value,
strong-smelling treats such as diced hot dogs or cheese. For puppies with more sensitive
stomachs, you can try boiled chicken or premade log food such as Happy Howies, Red Barn or
Natural Balance. Remember to cut the treats into very small pieces; puppy stomachs fill up very
Please let us know if you are not able to make a class so that we can organize playgroups/expand]
Yes! Whether you would like to attend both the Thursday and Saturday classes for the full 4
weeks, or if your pup is 14 weeks or older and you would like to complete four classes before
they turn 16 weeks, please let us know at registration so we can schedule you accordingly.
Your dog is ready to take a Basic Manners class! In Basic Manners, dogs learn how to focus on
their owners in the presence of other dogs and strangers. Your dog can learn many useful skills
such as walking on a loose leash or greeting people politely. More information about our Basic
Manners classes can be found HERE
You can also schedule a private consultation if you would like one-on- one discussion with a
trainer. Information is available in the ‘Private Sessions’ tab of the website.
